Blackpool Fylde & Wyre Society for the Blind offers a wide scope of volunteering opportunities throughout the different departments of the Society, to help make a difference to the lives of the many visually impaired people living in our local area. Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and age groups.

Friendly Visiting Scheme:
Do you enjoy chatting to p
eople? Are you a good listener ? Often just having someone to chat to over a cup of tea once a month can make all the difference and we are looking for volunteers who might be prepared to take on such a role. Other small tasks that our clients might appreciate would be helping to sort incoming mail, writing an occasional letter or birthday card and escorting on a short walk.

Talking Newspaper & Library:
Our volunteers come from all walks of life and are of all ages, they work from our studios, for a few hours during the day or in the evening, depending on what suits them. Most of them work as part of a team they research, compile, record articles. They clean and replace wallets and pack cassettes ready for despatch by post.

Hospital Information & Support Service:

Providing information and support to people attending the Eye Clinic in the Out-Patients Department at Blackpool Victoria Hospital and visiting in-patients.

Resource Centre:
Visiting clients in their own homes, helping out with group work, driving clients to group meetings, acting as sighted guides at exhibitions and assisting with clerical tasks.

Social Group:
Helping out within the Society's Social Group. Tasks include welcoming clients, serving lunches, escorting on outings etc.

Princess Alexandra Home for the Blind:
Visiting clients in the residential home, helping with tasks such a reading, playing games and chatting.

Fundraising:
Helping out with collections, from special events to supermarket collections.

BlueIRIS Project:
Reading information onto the internet radio system and assisting with operating the equipment.

Charity Shop:
Sorting out and pricing clothes, helping customers and using the till
